How I Added Flavor to a Simple White Fish Meal

Today my father and sister received a lunch meal that included white fish (Pollock or Swai), quinoa, and green beans. The meal was healthy, but the fish was very plain. As a caregiver, I’ve learned that small flavor changes can make a big difference, especially when you want someone to actually enjoy their food. Instead of serving it as is, I added a simple seasoning paste using ingredients I already had at home. This took less than 5 minutes.

Step 1: Make a Simple Seasoning Paste

In a small bowl combine:

  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Mix everything together until it forms a light paste.

This paste helps the seasoning stick to the fish instead of falling off.

Step 2: Spread the Paste Over the Fish

Using a spoon or brush, spread the seasoning paste evenly over the top of the fish.

This adds flavor and also helps keep the fish from drying out while heating.

Step 3: Add Butter for Richness

Place a small piece of butter on top of the fish.

As the fish warms up, the butter melts and mixes with the seasoning paste. This creates a light sauce that adds moisture and flavor.

Step 4: Heat the Fish

Warm the fish in the oven or microwave until heated through.

As it cooks, the butter and olive oil blend with the seasonings and coat the fish.

The Result

Instead of plain fish, the meal now has:

  • Bright lemon flavor

  • Savory garlic and onion taste

  • A light buttery sauce

  • Moist and flavorful fish

The quinoa and green beans also benefit because the sauce lightly mixes into the plate.
